Teaching materials

Orthographic standardization for Greko and Griko

The Greek varieties of Calabria and Salento stopped being transmitted from parents to children in the last century. Anyone wishing to learn them today can count on the indispensable help of the last generations of native speakers, but must also necessarily provide for their formal study, supported by manuals, grammars, dictionaries, and literary works. The teaching tools produced so far have a major limitation: they are all written differently. This represents in all respects an obstacle to learning. With our proposal we aim to offer a common solution for both Calabrian and Salentinian Greek which allows the development of organic teaching material and the development of a structured plan of study; this, we believe, will provide the basis to support the efforts undertaken by and between the two communities to safeguard and revitalize these languages.
